WANT TO HELP DSCBA WITH OUR OUTREACH EFFORTS FOR DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH?

As part of DS Awareness month this year, we're working to expand our Medical Outreach Alliance and reach out to as many local doctors as possible who are involved in delivering a Down syndrome diagnosis, including geneticists, obstetricians, pediatricians.

How can you help?

While many of our member families have had positive, encouraging diagnosis experiences, many others have not. In fact, a survey we conducted last year suggested that about half of respondents had a diagnosis experience that was less than positive. If you feel that your diagnosis experience could've been handled more positively and you'd like to send a letter to the physician who delivered it, let us know! We have created a letter for our interested members to send.

The intent here is not to shame any doctors, but rather to educate them about positive ways they can approach delivering a diagnosis, as well as to provide them with some information and referrals they can share with new parents. You can simply sign the letter we've written as is and send it to your physician, or we can work together to add a little personal information, such as a picture of your child, if you want to personalize it a bit.

If you've been wanting to address your diagnosis experience with your physician but didn't know how to start, here's your chance! Can you help us meet our goal of reaching at least 21 (because we all know and love the number 21, right?!) area physicians this October?

Please contact Cathleen Small, Medical Outreach Director at cathleen@dsconnection.org.
